Description
Head and shoulders portrait of a man dressed in a brown coat with waistcoat and a white cravat. His body is angled to the right as viewed, the face in half-profile. The sitter wears a grey bob wig and appears to be a man of the professions [possibly a physician?].
Object history
Not noted in previous catalogues and with no distinguishing features such as labels. The frame is not typical of the Royal Society’s ‘house-style’ from the eighteenth century and would argue for a later [nineteenth to twentieth century] acquisition date.
