Half-length seated portrait of Richard Threlfall, facing, wearing gloves and holding a cane: with (below) head and shoulders of John George Adami, looking to the viewer’s right. Extracted from a picture of a larger group.
Inscribed and signed by Charles Scott Sherrington verso, in pencil,: “Threlfall & Adami as undergraduates given me by Alexander Scott C.S.Sherrington.” Inscribed in ink on mount: “Richard Threlfall & J.G.Adami at Cambridge. Taken by Dr Alexander Scott & by him given to me.” Traces of an earlier pencil inscription, erased.
Richard Threlfall attended Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, graduating in 1884.J.G.Adami attended Christ’s College, Cambridge from 1880.
Collected, with other ephemera, by Sir Charles Scott Sherrington FRS (1857-1952) and incorporated, with other tracts in Sherrington’s volume Items touching the Royal Society.
Richard Threlfall was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1899.
John George Adami was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1905.
Alexander Scott was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1898.
