Description
Three-quarter length portrait of Ivan Pavlov in profile, facing the left as viewed. He is photographed standing in a group of people, including his son, and a woman carrying a parasol. Pavlov wears hat and gestures with his right hand. An archaeological site with trees can be seen in the background and there is another photographer, facing.
An inscription appears to the left of the image: “I.Pavlov at the Rome Congress: his son (lawyer) with him, to the left, facing.”
The inscription refers to the 14th Congress of Physiological Sciences held in Rome, Italy, in 1932. The picture was collected with other ephemera by Sir Charles Scott Sherrington FRS (1857-1952) and incorporated, with other tracts in Sherrington’s volume Items touching the Royal Society.
Ivan Pavlov was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society in 1907.
