Description
Marine zoological study showing a side view of the Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), possibly a juvenile, with a plan view of the head of the fish. The title of the print normally refers a different fish, the Tusk or Cusk (Brosme brosme), but the print clearly represents a cod. Plate 4 from the book Icones rerum naturalium, ou figures enlumlinees d’histoire naturelle du Nord, by Peter Ascanius, volume 1 (Copenhagen, 1772). Inscribed upper right “Ic: Rer: Nat: Tab: IV.”
