    Plate 8 figure 1 from the paper "On some fossil bones discovered in caverns in the limestone quarries of Oreston...", by Joseph Whidbey with the supplementary paper "A description of the fossil bones found in the caverns of Oreston...", by William Clift, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.113 (1823), pp.78-90. Described by Clift as "A posterior view of part of the right metatarsal bone of the bos [eg Bos taurus, cattle] , showing the effects of long continued ossific inflammation". Excavated at Oreston quarry caves near Plymouth, Devon. Inscribed with publication and plate details and a pencil note upper left "Page 8 Right metacarpal bone Bos" and lower left "Fig 1 2 & to be on the same Plate." Not signed. Royal Society stamp verso. Watermarked "W Turner & So-".
