    Half-length portrait of Martin Rees engaging the viewer in the act of speaking, above a Royal Society branded platform or lectern. Rees is dressed in a suit and shirt with a patterned tie. The work features a cropped version of the Society’s 350th year logo.

    Martin Rees was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1979, he served as its President from 2005 to 2010.

    Two preparatory drawings to Martin Rees portrait: one for the main portrait and a second study of Martin Rees’s hands making characteristic gestures, were presented to Martin Rees in 2010.

    The portrait was commissioned by the Treasurer and unveiled on 30 November 2010 at the Royal Society's headquarters in Carlton House Terrace, London.
